Fed Signals Rate Cuts Could Come “Later This Year” as Inflation Cools

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday that officials are growing more confident inflation is on track toward their 2% target — opening the door to potential rate cuts before the end of 2026. Markets surged on the news.

💡 Why It Matters:When the Fed cuts rates, borrowing becomes cheaper — that means lower mortgage rates, cheaper car loans, and businesses able to invest more. It's like the economy getting a shot of espresso.

💡 Know the Concept

The Federal Funds Rate

This is the interest rate banks charge each other for overnight loans. When the Fed raises it, borrowing gets expensive everywhere. When they cut it, money flows more freely. Think of it as the master dial that controls the cost of money in the entire economy.

🏆 Winners

Bank stocks (+2.1%)
Homebuilders (+3.4%)
Tech growth stocks

📉 Losers

US Dollar Index (-0.4%)
Money market funds
Short-term bond yields

🎯 Today's Takeaway

The Fed's tone shift is big news. Watch how markets react over the next 48 hours — rising stock prices today could reverse if economic data disappoints.
